Hazardous Materials (Haz-Mat)

The Avra Valley Fire District is responsible for protecting our residents and visitors from the dangers posed by hazardous materials as they live in or pass through our District. All AVFD suppression personnel are trained and certified at the Hazardous Materials Operations level and can perform initial and defensive actions to protect people, property, and the environment. In addition, AVFD employs multiple Haz-Mat Technicians who are trained in utilizing specialized tools and equipment to respond aggressively and offensively to control hazardous releases. Station 194, located on Homestead Drive in Red Rock, houses the District's hazardous materials team and a specialized squad truck equipped with the equipment and protective gear necessary to mitigate haz-mat incidents. Avra Valley Fire is assisted by the Pima Regional Haz-Mat Team, which will provide necessary equipment and personnel to assist in larger-scale operations. District personnel who hold advance training and certification also regularly participate in regional drills with local agencies.
